Let's start at the definition of
morphing:
"Morphing is a special effect in motion pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image into another through a seamless transition. Most often it is used to depict one person turning into another through technological means or as part of a fantasy or surreal sequence. Traditionally such a depiction would be achieved through cross-fading techniques on film. Since the early 1990s, this has been replaced by computer software to create more realistic transitions."
Now Norrkross MorphX is a free tool allowing you to make your own morphed images or save the morph as an animation (in a Quicktime Movie). Of course there're various commercial applications (eg.
Morph Age) that give you more control on the process or even more precise/nicer results, but MorphX should be enough to play around with family photos, etc.
As a getting-to-know experience, I've created a short (5s)
morphing video from four pictures of myself that were taken at Balaton cross-swimmings over several years. I must admit: this was not done with MorphX. First I tried using MorphX, but the result was not good enough for my expectations ... neither in quality, nor "feature-wise" (eg. if you want to create a morph of several images, you've to create the various phases separately and join the results together "manually").
