This app seems to be the best bet if you want to download your Flickr albums using a Mac. I've tested the download functionality and it did successfully save my original images (named the folder after the selected set and named the images according to their titles). Theoretically you can do a lot more with FlickrEdit like upload, edit, organize ... all the stuff you can do on the web too. The installation is plain simple (thanks to Java Web Start).

This article at Lullabot is not quite up-to-date, but gives you a general idea on how to achieve the goal. With some extra work you can have collections, sets, fancy slideshows (etc.) too.
