Quote of the day: "nobody gets out of life alive"

Do you know the origin of this quote? Who was the first (famous / well known) person it was attributed to? I've found a reference to the quote in the memorable quotes section of the movie Hud. There the full quote says: "Happens to everybody. Nobody gets out of life alive." In other contexts it starts with "Don't take it seriously. Nobody gets ...". I was wondering whether there's a single source to this spark of wisdom or did a number of people think of it independently of each other? Both could be true. Smiling

Shlemiel the Painter

Shlemiel gets a job as a street painter, painting the dotted lines down the middle of the road. On the first day he takes a can of paint out to the road and finishes 300 yards of the road. "That's pretty good!" says his boss, "you're a fast worker!" and pays him a kopeck.

The next day Shlemiel only gets 150 yards done. "Well, that's not nearly as good as yesterday, but you're still a fast worker. 150 yards is respectable," and pays him a kopeck.

The next day Shlemiel paints 30 yards of the road. "Only 30!" shouts his boss. "That's unacceptable! On the first day you did ten times that much work! What's going on?"

"I can't help it," says Shlemiel. "Every day I get farther and farther away from the paint can!"

Math For Programmers

An incredibly funny post on how a programmer found his way back to mathematics. Smiling
One sentence I really liked:
Math is... ummm, please don't tell anyone I said this; I'll never get invited to another party as long as I live. But math, well... I'd better whisper this, so listen up: (it's actually kinda fun.)

"Valami Amerika 2" idézet

Eszter: "Azért egy pasinak az is feltűnik, ha valakinek van agya, nem?"
Timi: "Persze. Ha a melledbe injekciózod."

Monty Python's YouTube channel

Monty Python decided to go to war with all the YouTubers who have been ripping them off for the last couple of years. They've started their own YouTube channel and uploaded all the popular scenes from their shows as high quality videos. Some of my favourites are: Ministry of Silly Walks, The Miracle of Birth - Part I, Argument Clinic, Pope and Michaelangelo. Smiling

TIXClock: an extremely geek clock widget for Mac :-)

The clock is based on a real life geek gadget, the TIX Led Clock:
"Millions of patterns are possible with the futuristic-looking Tix clock, yet the clock is extremely simple to read once you grasp the basic concept. The four seperate fields act like the four digits of a digital clock. The value of each digit is simply the number of illuminated squares in each field. So any given time of the day may have thousands of different ways of displaying the time."

Chasing your alarm clock :-D

ThinkGeek came out with a rolling alarm clock, "Clocky". Awesome! Laughing out loud
