I suspect I've issues with my autofocus with both of my lens (an AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED and an AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED). I've googled a little bit on the topic and came up with the following links:

Nikon has recently released a firmware update for its D300 DSLR camera. Unfortunately the European download server (FTP) pretty much refuses any connection, so you've to fetch the update from some other site. Googling for the terms "nikon d300 firmware download" takes you to Rob Galbraith's site where you'll find links pointing to the firmware update at Nikon USA's server. However to download these you'll have to create an account and register at least on Nikon product by entering its serial number. I tried at first my D300, but the site said "invalid serial". The same happened with my D70's serial, but finally the serial of my D70 kit lens (18-70mm) was accepted and I could download the firmware update.
