Ubuntu Feisty

Feisty update broken due to end-of-life

Feisty got its End-Of-Life statement and it also means that the official Feisty repository was moved from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/. If you don't know what's going on and just run apt-get update, you'll see error messages like this ...

Firefox weirdness :-o

Sometimes when I start Firefox, I see an URL in the location bar, however my settings should tell to show a blank page on startup. The URL is something like http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=. I did search through all the files of the browser (btw. I'm using FF on Ubuntu Feisty) and found that the file /usr/share/firefox/chrome/en-US.jar contains a file locale/browser-region/region.properties which contains this:
# Keyword URL (for location bar searches)
keyword.URL=http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

Installing FreeNX on Ubuntu Feisty

The process is well described on the Ubuntu FreeNX Wiki page, the only difference is that you have to use the following apt sources for Feisty:
#freenx packages
deb http://free.linux.hp.com/~brett/seveas/freenx feisty-seveas freenx
deb-src http://free.linux.hp.com/~brett/seveas/freenx feisty-seveas freenx

After the brief installation procedure (takes no more than 5 minutes) you can connect right away to your linux server. Smiling
