A kínaiak megmutatták ezzel a filmmel, hogy ők is tudnak Mátrixot készíteni. A speciális effektusok teljesen hollywoodi szinten mozognak, a történet és a stílus viszont a hagyományos kung-fu filmekből ered, komikus jelenetekkel fűszerezve. Azoknak ajánlom, akiknek tetszettek a "Részeges karatemester" jellegű filmek is.

[HWSW] A 21 éves brit Alex Tew-nak sikerült: az általa létrehozott weboldalon, a Million Dollar Homapage-en az összes pixel elkelt. Tew weboldala kezdetben úgy nézett ki, mint egy üres oldal egy kockás füzetben, ma viszont már hirdetések kusza össze-visszasága. A www.milliondollarhomepage.com címen látható oldal egymillió megvásárolható pixelt tartalmaz, minden egyes képpont ára 1 dollár, ezért az árért egy 5 évig garantáltan megjelenő reklámot lehet kapni egy tetszőleges weboldalra mutató linkkel. Alex Tew elmondása szerint egyetemi tandíját szeretné finanszírozni a bevételekből.

Szinte hihetetlen. Fel sem merült bennem annak idején, amikor először olvastam erről, hogy bárkit is érdekelhet egy ilyen hirdetési felületbe pénzt fektetni. De megérdemelte a srác: volt egy jó ötlete és tőkét kovácsolt belőle.

I found a nice presentation with the title "High speed PL/SQL" by Rodger Lepinsky. It talks about how one should write code to optimize for performance. It's a nice intro for beginners who already know the language and have one or two projects behind them, but have not yet dived into optimizations deeply. I'd say this doc is the "Absolute minimum a PL/SQL developer should know about optimization".

I've found an article about Microsoft's responsiveness (MTTR) to security flaws in their products. Here's the point:
"[Washington Post] In cases where Microsoft learned of a flaw in its products through full disclosure, the company has indeed gotten speedier. In 2003, it took an average of 71 days to release a fix for one of these flaws. In 2004 that time frame decreased to 55 days, and in 2005 shrank further to 46 days."

It seems the best MS has to offer (in case a security flaw is made public) is 46 days regarding critical flaws (critical -> Microsoft considers a patch "critical" if it fixes a security hole that attackers could use to break into and take control over vulnerable Windows computers). I'm not a security expert myself, but if my company would allow such a shameful MTTR, we would definitely fall out of business pretty soon.

I'm sure there're lots of people in the U.S. to deny this (I've already met some who did not think of Hungarians as barbarian/nomadic people ), but I tend to believe that there's some truth in the common stereotype about them. At least I do not see much cooperativeness in their foreign politics. Their government used to do whatever it believes is right (or is in its right to do) ... and sometimes this is far from what the rest of the world would suggest.
After all ... who is anybody else to criticize them? :->

I just found this article about Unicode. It's a very good primer for folks who already heard about the topic, but never took the time to read an article and get started with the terms and definitions. I really liked its title too so I kept it for this blog entry.

[HWSW] A Mozilla közzétette Thunderbird levelezőprogramja legújabb végleges, 1.5-ös változatát. A véglegesnek titulált változatot csak azoknak kell letölteni, akik a második "release candidate" (RC2) verziónál régebbit használnak, a most közzétett verzió ugyanis teljesen megfelel az RC2-es változatnak. Az RC1 használóinak hamarosan egy frissítést is közzétesznek.

[Mark's Sysinternals Blog] Since the release of the first antivirus products many people have believed in a conspiracy theory where antivirus companies generate their own market by paying virus writers to develop and release viruses. I don't subscribe to that theory and trust the major security vendors, but recent trends show that there's a fuzzy line between second-tier antispyware vendors and the malware they clean.

Actually I think that even some anti-virus companies might be (or might have been) affiliated with some virus-writers. It's pretty much trivial that the company -that is the first among the many competitors to offer protection against the newest and most serious threats- gets quite some advantage on the market, since their products will be the most successful in fighting virii/worms/etc. Generating new threats themselves and offering protection as the first ones is nothing that I couldn't imagine about big and money-hungry megacorps. :->

On the other hand, I think that the best anti-virus professionals became crime-fighters after having dived into the abyss themselves. You know: "set a thief to catch a thief".

Ennek oka, hogy a tömegmédia mellett a szélessávú internet és hordozható audiolejátszók révén bárhol, bármikor hallgathatnak zenét.
