Hackers Are People Too

IMDb.com

This a sort of a documentary on what most people believe "hackers" are and what most people calling themselves "hackers" really are like. Smile The term "hacker" has been misused and bullied over the last decades by the media and this movie tries to shed some light on the reality of being a hacker.
Believe it or not: I bet 99% of the people out there have commited some sort of hacking during the course of their lives. Smile

I've found the "Inspiration" paragraph on the official website most amusing and quite fitting. Smile

The inspiration for this film came from a brief discussion I had with one my professors in March of 2007:

"I'll be missing class on Friday since I'm going to a conference."

"Oh, that's fine. What kind of conference?"

"A hacker conference." I was going to Shmoocon.

"HACKERS?! Like....*whispers dramatically* computer hackers? They have CONFERENCES?!"

"Um...yes."

"What do they do there? Do they try to hack into banks and take over networks and steal credit cards?"

*blank stare* ".............yes."

After that enlightening conversation, I decided that maybe hackers had been getting a bad rap for too long. How could people really still believe that all hackers were computer criminals? So after feeling out the idea at Shmoocon, I decided it would be a great idea to do a real documentary. I wrangled my friend Amanda into being my sound girl and come with me to DefCon where we recieved many strange stares as we tried to convince people that they wanted to talk to us on camera Smile
