Have you seen the
latest trailer for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"? I have. The opening screen says:
"The following preview has been approved for all audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America Inc. The film advertised has been rated: PG - Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children.". Money talks. Of course ... what else should we expect. What do they mean by "approved for all audiences"??? And "some material"? This and the last few Potter films are everything, but made for little children. And don't take me wrong: I like the Potter movies. But children under a certain age should not get to see them at all since they become more and more darker as the story unfolds.
Now check out a few other trailers at
Apple's Movie Trailers site and look for any warnings at the start. Eg. the "X-MEN Origins: Wolverine" trailer does not even have any warning that it might not be suitable for children (it just says on an all-green background -as if the film was "safe" for all audiences- that "the preview has been approved for all audiences"). I bet there're laws/regulations that prohibit this. And I bet that the punishment for breaking them is merely a joke. The movie industry does whatever it wants to do and pays any fees if it's caught on violating any rules. It's still profitable for them.
