There's one small annoyance in Adium (a chat client for Mac OS X) that I could not work around by myself: it checks spelling as you type by default. I've gone through al sorts of menus, preferences, whatsoever, but I couldn't find the way how to turn it off. It drove me crazy.

The solution is to open a message window (it doesn't have to be an online contact, an offline buddy will do too), right-click (or Control-click) the typing field (the small area within the window, where you can type your message), select the "Spelling" menu and uncheck the "Check Spelling as You Type" option. That's all.
