A few days ago
the Daily Mail reported about the newest weapon of crime prevention, the Silent Guardian. The demo version of the weapon looks pretty much the same way as it is described in Frank Herbert's
Dune (I mean the box used by the reverend mother together with the
Gom jabbar on Paul Atreides).

The functionality is the same, the design too ... is this just a mere coincidence or did the designers of the Silent Guardian take the idea from the novel?

Anyway ... having a "pain gun" in the hands of police sounds quite troubling. There are already several reports (check YouTube) where cops used tasers to bring down civilists who denied cooperation. Pain guns will be used just the same way ... and not how they were "intended" to be used (as a substitution of deadly force).
