In a hint at macosxhints.com somebody suggested to watch for Dev Tools dependencies, when your're trying to compile stuff eg. from Fink or DarwinPorts. Unfortunately DevTools is not automatically updated by Software Updates, thus you have to check for and download updates manually. This is exactly a kind of hidden sillyness that could drive you crazy during debugging if you forget about it.
