How to move widgets from the Dashboard to your desktop

The hint is described here. The main steps are:
  1. Switch Dashboard into developer mode by issuing the following command in a shell:
    defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
  2. Assign some keyboard shortcut to the Dashboard (in "System Preferences" / "Exposé & Spaces" / "Dashboard" / "Hide and show").
  3. Invoke Dashboard with the keyboard shortcut.
  4. Click and drag the widget you want to move to the desktop and press the Dashboard shortcut again while dragging.
